Lakeland Mayor Proclaims November 6 to be Florida Technical College Electrical Program Day

LAKELAND, Fla. — Nov. 14, 2019 — Florida Technical College Lakeland Campus celebrated the launch of its new Electrical Diploma Program with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, during which Lakeland Mayor Bill Mutz presented a proclamation declaring November 6 to be Florida Technical College Electrical Program Day.

“I’m grateful for educational institutions like Florida Technical College that offer our citizens the opportunity to work toward a rewarding career,” said Mayor Mutz. “We look forward to celebrating the success of program graduates as they fill the much-needed vacancies in the industry.”

“We pride ourselves in providing programs that fuel our local job market and our new Electrical Diploma Program is no different,” said FTC’s president, Dr. James Burkett. “Florida Technical College is working to establish a pipeline of talent for businesses across the state, assuring employers that a local and diverse workforce has the industry-specific skills to fulfill their organization’s needs.”

The program schedule is taught in five-hour blocks, four days a week. The Electrical Diploma Program provides students with technical and practical knowledge, as well as the skills needed to perform installation tasks, provide services, and repair residential, commercial, and industrial electrical systems. Graduates from this program will be able to fill positions as an electrician’s helper in residential and construction firms in the electrical trade industry. Students are eligible to sit for the Craft Professional (NCCER) and the OSHA 10 exams.

Students can develop hands-on experience in the newly completed 1,200-square-feet labs by putting into practice what they have studied. The two labs featured simulated construction projects involving electrical wiring, electrical boxes, and transformers for students to learn and practice residential and commercial electrical setups.

Florida Technical College is an academic unit of National University College, which is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Financial aid is available for those who qualify. For additional information or to register, call 321-684-4034.
